Geothermal Energy

Due to the heating of water and rain which filter into the earth and come into contact with rock formations in the proximity of molten magma, volcanic activity is accompanied by geothermal activity.The Icelanders have learned to capitalize on this fabulous source of energy and use it to heat their homes and swimming pools and to produce electricity. About 40% of the energy consumed in Iceland is of geothermal origin and nearly 85% of the buildings are heated in this way. Greenhouse agriculture has developed due to the abundance of hot water.
